Note: On models with F7P engine (with 16 valves) there are two fuel tanks: main and additional (see Chapter 12).
Removal
1. On models with F7P engine (with 16 valves), proceed as follows.
- Depressurize the fuel system as described in Chapter 7.
- Disconnect the fuel supply line from the injector line.
- Attach a piece of flexible hose to the supply pipe. Place the other end of the hose into a suitable container.
- Turn on the fuel pumps by connecting terminals 3 and 5 on the relay with a jumper: fuel will be pumped into the container. When the fuel stops flowing, remove the jumper.
Warning: Do not allow the main fuel pump to run dry for more than a few seconds.
- Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Connect the fuel supply line to the injector line.
2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Disconnect the hoses and wiring from the fuel level sensor (see Chapter 10).
3. On all models except those with the F7P engine (with 16 valves), transfer the fuel from the tank to a suitable container.
4. Jack up the vehicle and place it on axle stands. Remove the exhaust system as described in Chapter 19 and the heat-insulating shield of the central section. On models with ABS and/or open beam rear axle, the rear exhaust system cannot be removed; in this case, remove the outlet pipe and the center section.
5. Disconnect the handbrake cables from the equalizer. Release the cables from the fasteners and move them to the side.
6. On all models except those with F7P engines (with 16 valves), disconnect the filler pipe from the fuel tank. Also disconnect the breather and ventilation hoses.
7. On models with F7P engine (with 16 valves), disconnect the hose from the main tank that goes to the additional tank.
8. Disconnect the outlet hose from the fuel filter.
9. Ask an assistant to support the fuel tank. Remove the five mounting bolts and lower the tank. Disconnect any remaining cables or hoses and remove the tank from under the vehicle.
10. The tank is made of plastic. If damaged, replace it. Special repair kits are available for sale.
Installation
11. Install in reverse order. Adjust the handbrake as described in Section 1.
