Checking the serviceability
1. Perform a pressure check as described in previous chapter.
2. Disconnect the fuel return line from the throttle body. Attach a piece of hose to the return coupling and insert the other end of the hose into the measuring flask (volume of about 2 liters).
3. Turn on the fuel pump by short-circuiting terminals 3 and 5 on the fuel pump relay, see previous chapter.
4. Note the amount of fuel pumped by the pump in one minute. The correct values are given in Specifications.
5. Remove the jumper from the relay. Put the pump back in place.
6. If performance is low, make sure that the voltage at the relay contacts and at the pump contacts is equal to the battery voltage. (The pump wiring connector is accessible through a hatch in the floor.) A 1 volt voltage drop results in approximately a 10% reduction in performance.
7. If the supply voltage is normal, but the performance is low, there are two possible reasons: either the fuel supply hose is clogged (including the main fuel filter and the filter in the oil pump inlet pipe), or the pump is faulty. If the pump is defective, replace it.
8. Finally, reconnect the fuel lines.
Removal
Note: A new fuel pump gasket will be required during installation.
9. Remove the fuel tank as described in Chapter 11.
10. Disconnect the fuel hose and multi-pin connector from the top of the pump (see illustration).
9.10. Disconnect the fuel hose (A) and multi-pin connector (B) from the top of the fuel lift pump.
11. Unscrew and remove the ring nut, then remove the pump. Remove the seal (see illustrations).
9.11a. Dimensions of the tool for unscrewing the ring nut (in mm).
The text is available on this website: www.RENAULTBOOK.ru
9.11b. Loosen the ring nut using an adjustable wrench.
9.11s. Remove the ring nut...
9.11d....then remove the pump...
9.11e....and remove the seal. Note the position of the slot (marked with an arrow).
12. Loosen the staples. Note the correct orientation of the wiring, then disconnect it from the pump.
Installation
13. Install in reverse order. Use a new seal and (if possible) tighten the ring nut to the specified tightening torque Specifications.
