When working, refer to Fig. 4.52.

Work order:
  • remove the drive shaft;
  • cut both clamps with a suitable tool and slide the cover from the hinge towards the shaft;
  • remove as much grease as possible from the boot cavity and from the hinge mechanism. Do not use solvent to clean the parts;
  • slide the hinge housing off the hinge mechanism, making sure not to let the rollers fall off the hinge pins, as they are matched together by size;
  • remove the retaining ring from the shaft;
  • mark the position of the joint relative to the shaft and use a puller to press it off the shaft (see fig. 4.57); do not press the puller's paws against the rollers, as they may become deformed;
  • after removing the inner part of the joint, remove the boot from the shaft;
  • inspect the hinge parts to determine their suitability. No chips, excessive wear, dents or similar damage are allowed. The rollers should rotate on the pins without jamming;
  • lightly lubricate the drive shaft to facilitate installation of the boot. Place the boot on the shaft, position the small diameter boot belt in the groove on the drive shaft;
  • install the inner part of the joint in the position according to the mark made during removal and install the retaining ring;
  • fix the inner part of the joint on the shaft by punching at three points at 120°, pressing the metal of the spline projections;
  • install the hinge housing onto the inner hinge;
  • fill the cover and the hinge housing equally with grease, the grease weight is 110 g;
  • place the protruding belts of the cover in the grooves;

  • insert a rod with rounded edges between the boot and the hinge body to adjust the amount of air inside the hinge. Change the position of the hinge until you get the size (between the end of the hinge housing and the end face of the groove on the drive shaft for installing the small diameter belt of the boot), equal to 190 mm (Fig. 4.58). In this position, remove the rod;
  • install the clamps using a crimping tool;
  • before installing the shaft, check the smooth movement of the joint in all planes;
  • install the drive shaft.
