Fig. 4.51. Constant velocity joint RC 462 ("tripod"): 1 – retaining ring; 2 – hinge housing; 3 - three-spined; 4 – clamps; 5 – corrugated cover
When working, refer to Fig. 4.51.
Work order:
- remove the drive shaft;
- cut both clamps with a suitable tool and move the cover towards the inner hinge;
- remove as much grease as possible, then wash the parts with kerosene or similar solvent and dry;
- to replace the thermoplastic cover, you need to remove the inner hinge as described above;
- remove the cover from the shaft;
Note: Some right drive shafts are equipped with anti-vibration dampers; if the thermoplastic cover is damaged, replace the drive shaft assembly.
- inspect the internal parts of the hinge as described for the RC 462 hinge;
- install a new boot and fill the boot and hinge housing equally with grease. The weight of the grease is 180 g;
- pull the boot over the hinge housing until its outer edges fit into the grooves on the shaft and hinge, then release excess air from the boot by lifting the edge;
- install the large clamp, small clamp and tighten them with the crimping tool;
- make sure the joint rotates smoothly in all planes;
- install the inner hinge;
- install the drive shaft.
