Pic. 3.111. Removing the exhaust manifold: 1 - oxygen concentration sensor in exhaust gases; 2 - brace
Pic. 3.112. Exhaust manifold tightening sequence
When working, be guided by Fig. 3.111 and 3.112.
- remove the heat shield of the subframe;
- Disconnect the muffler downpipe from the exhaust manifold (see subsection «Exhaust system»);
- move back the catalytic converter without removing it;
- place a shim on the subframe to support the catalytic converter and prevent damage to the hose. If this happens, the catalytic converter must be replaced;
- remove the strut between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder block;
- unscrew the exhaust manifold mounting nuts, remove it and the gasket.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. In doing so, do the following:
- replace manifold and three-point flange gaskets;
- replace the fixing nuts with new ones;
- observe the order and tightening torque of the manifold fastening nuts.
Note. The heat shield must be securely fastened between the oxygen sensor and the manifold to avoid overheating which could destroy the oxygen sensor connector. A damaged heat shield should be replaced to prevent fire.
