Vehicles with a 1.4-/1.6-liter petrol engine
The water pump for these vehicles is located in the cylinder block and is driven by a toothed belt.
Removing
1. Disconnect the wire terminal «masses» (-) from the battery.
Attention! This deletes data from the memory devices, for example, the security code of the radio. Before disconnecting the battery, please read the chapter «Battery - removal and installation».
2. Drain the coolant into a suitable container.
3. Remove the toothed belt guard and loosen the toothed belt tension.
4. Remove the toothed belt tension roller.
5. Remove the water pump mounting bolts (see arrows in illustration) and remove the pump from the cylinder block.
8.5 Remove the water pump mounting bolts (see arrows) and remove the pump from the cylinder block. The illustration shows the water pump with the cylinder head removed
Installation
6. Clean the mating surfaces of the water pump and cylinder block from seal residues. To do this, first clean the surfaces with a sharp spatula or similar device, and then wipe with a dry cloth.
7. Apply sealant H to the water pump housing as shown in the illustration without tearing the sealant layer. The thickness of the sealant layer should be 0.6-1.0 mm. Both ends of the sealant layer must be well connected to each other. Sealant can be used as a sealant «LOCTITE 518».
8.7 Apply sealant H to the water pump housing without breaking the sealant layer
8. Carefully place the new pump in place without tilting it. Tighten the pump mounting bolts with a little force. The tightening torque of the bolts is 15 Nm. For vehicles with a 1.4-/1.6-liter petrol engine (K4D/K4M) M6 bolts are tightened with a force of 10 Nm, and M8 bolts with 22 Nm.
9. Install the toothed belt tension roller in place and secure it with a nut.
10. Lay the toothed belt and tension it.
11. Wait at least one hour for the sealant to dry. Only then can coolant be added to the system.
12. Connect to the negative pole of the battery wire terminal «masses» (-).
13. Set the clock.
14. Enter, if necessary, the code into the radio.
15. Warm up the engine and check the tightness of the cooling system by putting the car in a dry place.
Vehicles with 2.0 liter petrol engine and 1.9 liter diesel engine
On these vehicles, the water pump is located at the bottom of the cylinder block, on the side, and is driven by a ribbed belt, which also drives the alternator.
Removing
16. Disconnect the wire terminal «masses» (-) from the battery.
Attention! This deletes data from the memory devices, for example, the security code of the radio. Before disconnecting the battery, please read the chapter «Battery - removal and installation».
17. Unscrew the three bolts that secure the belt pulley to the water pump shaft. To keep the pulley from turning, insert a drill into one of the pulley holes.
18. Remove the ribbed belt.
19. Remove the belt pulley from the pump shaft.
20. Drain the coolant.
21. Unscrew the mounting bolts (see arrows in illustration) water pump to the cylinder block and remove the pump together with the gasket.
8.21 Unscrew the mounting bolts (see arrows) water pump to the cylinder block and remove the pump together with the seal
Installation
22. Clean the mating surfaces of the water pump and cylinder block from seal residues. To do this, first clean the surfaces with a sharp spatula or similar device, and then wipe with a dry cloth.
23. Replace the old pump gasket with a new one. Sealant is not applied when installing the pump. The surfaces to be sealed must be dry and clean during installation.
24. Replace the water pump and secure it with bolts with a tightening torque of 20 Nm.
25. Install the belt pulley on the pump shaft and fasten it with bolts.
26. Fill in cooling liquid and remove air from the cooling system.
27. Connect the wire terminal to the negative pole of the battery «masses» (-).
28. Set the clock.
29. Enter, if necessary, the code into the radio.
30. Carry out a test drive and check the cooling system for leaks.
