The message appears on the display 1 of the on-board computer «Insert card» (pic. 1.80).
Insert the Renault card into reader 2 as far as it will go.

Vehicles with the system «free hands» have three engine start antennas for communication with the card (pic. 1.81):
- front antenna 1 located behind the front panel of the dashboard;
- antenna 2 at the rear of the center console;
- antenna 3 at the back of the floor.
Note. The antennas used to unlock the opening body locks are not linked to the immobilizer system.
Note. The antennas are identical, interchangeable and do not require programming.
Launch conditions
To start the engine, follow the instructions shown on the instrument panel below:

Press the brake or clutch pedal (the pedal must be kept depressed during the entire starting time) and press button 3 (see fig. 1.80). If a gear is engaged, starting is only possible by depressing the clutch pedal.
Features of a car with an automatic transmission
With the gear selector in the N or P position, press the brake pedal.
Note. If one of the conditions for starting the engine is not met, the instrument panel displays the message «Disengage clutch + Start button» or «Press brake + start button».
Note. In some cases it is necessary to turn the steering wheel while pressing the start button 3 to unlock the steering column.
Function «optional equipment»
To use some functions when the engine is stopped (car radio, navigation system, etc.), press the Z button.
Starting with the tailgate open (in mode «free hands»)
If it is necessary to start the engine with the tailgate open, remove the cover and insert the card into reader 2.
