During assembly, the car undergoes very thorough anti-corrosion treatment at the factory. The body parts consist of galvanized steel sheet. The underbody of the car is coated with a wear-resistant anti-corrosion compound. The internal surfaces of the beams, openings and closed cavities are treated with a liquid penetrating corrosion inhibitor from a spray gun.

Maintenance of car anti-corrosion protection

Wash your car regularly, wash the underbody of your car. When washing under high pressure, the spray nozzle should be located no closer than 30 cm from the painted surfaces.

Check regularly and restore corrosion protection as necessary.

The car's anti-corrosion coating normally requires no maintenance for about 12 years. After this time, it should be treated at three-year intervals. If the car needs such treatment, contact an authorized service station for help.

Paint and varnish coating

Paintwork is an important component of a car's anti-corrosion protection and therefore requires regular inspection. Damage to the paintwork must be repaired immediately to prevent rust. The most common types of paintwork damage are small stone chips, scratches and dents, such as on the edges of fenders and doors.

Chips and scratches

Before starting work on restoring the paintwork, the car must be washed and dried, and its temperature must not exceed 15°C. If the enamel chip does not penetrate to the metal and there is a layer of undamaged paint underneath, you can apply a new layer of enamel immediately after cleaning the damaged area.

If the enamel chip has penetrated to the metal:
  • apply a piece of masking tape to the damaged surface. Then remove the tape along with the remaining paint;
  • mix the primer thoroughly and apply it with a fine brush or matchstick. After the primer has dried, brush on the enamel;
  • treat scratches in the same way as above, but apply masking tape around the area to protect the undamaged paintwork;
  • after a few days, polish the restored areas. Polish with a soft cloth and a moderate amount of polishing paste.
