1. When mounting, always use only new nuts and bolts.
2. Disconnect the downpipe or dual downpipe from the exhaust manifold (two nuts with springs and spacers) and drop it.
3. Disconnect the lambda probe connector.
4. Loosen the flange bolts (two) in front of the catalytic converter and remove the exhaust pipe.
5. Loosen the rear flange bolts (two) catalyst and remove the catalyst.
6. Unscrew the pipe clamp on the muffler and remove the central exhaust pipe with an additional muffler.
7. Raise the rear muffler and remove the rubber mounting pads from the bottom of the vehicle by turning them 90°.
8. Before installing, clean the exhaust manifold flanges from carbon deposits with sandpaper.
9. Clean the threads of the spacer bolts with a wire brush and lubricate them with heat-resistant grease.
10. When assembling, install the elements of the exhaust system on the car freely, that is, tighten the threaded connections and clamps by hand.
11. Level the exhaust system on the rubber mounting pads. The rubber pads must be equally stretched and must not be deformed.
12. The exhaust system must not touch the bottom of the body and, accordingly, the heat-insulating casing. Install the exhaust system so that it is at least 25 mm from the bottom of the car body.
13. Tighten the mounting bolts (8 mm) torque 20 Nm. When installing flange bolts in the exhaust manifold, be sure to install spacers.
14. If during a test drive you notice that the exhaust system is leaking, then loosen the clamps (be careful the pipes are hot!) and re-adjust the position of the exhaust system.
Note. An improperly located exhaust system gives itself out as a thud or a rumble.
Note. In addition, internal stress in the exhaust system can cause cracks.
Note. Install the connection clamps so that the hole never coincides with the groove of the pipe.
Note. Leaks in the installed exhaust system can be repaired with muffler sealant.
Note. Do not use sealant in the connections upstream of the catalytic converter!
Rubber Mounting Pads (shown by arrow) exhaust systems Renault 19 are quite reliable, but you can not neglect to check them. Dirty fasteners must be cleaned.
Catalyst replacement
1. Raise the vehicle and secure.
2. Let the exhaust system cool down.
3. Disconnect the lambda probe connector if it is integrated into the catalytic converter.
4. Disconnect the catalyst from a reception pipe.
5. Disconnect the catalyst from the additional muffler (two bolts) and take it off.
6. Clean all connections before installation.
7. Install the catalyst with new gaskets between the flanges of the additional muffler and the exhaust pipe.
8. Check the correct installation of the entire system, as described above.
Recommendation: when removing the catalytic converter, be careful not to damage it. Also take care not to damage the ceramic elements of the catalyst structure.
