The exhaust system is connected to the exhaust manifold with an elastic joint that eliminates internal stresses. Under the bottom of the car, it is fixed on rubber cushions.
1. Check the rubber pads for tears or any other damage and replace if necessary. To check, pull the muffler down so that the rubber cushions are stretched.
2. Check the bolted connection in the exhaust manifold flange.
3. Plug the muffler pipe with a rag. The engine should shut down after a while.
4. If you hear a hissing sound and the engine continues to run, then the exhaust system is leaking.
5. If the exhaust sound is duller than usual, then the exhaust pipe is most likely rusted.
