2. If the frame is not accessible, the engine can be disassembled on a sturdy workbench or on the floor. Be extremely careful not to tip or drop the engine when operating without the stand.
3. Before disassembling the engine or replacing it with a rebuilt unit, remove the following external components:
- Generator and brackets.
- Distributor, high tension wires and spark plugs.
- Thermostat, casing and cover.
- Carburetor or fuel injection system equipment.
- Intake and exhaust manifolds.
- Oil filter.
- Fuel pump (carburetor models).
- Engine mounts.
- Flywheel/drive disc.
Note: When removing external components from the engine, pay special attention to parts that may be useful or important during installation. Note the correct location of gaskets, seals, spacers, pins, washers, bolts and other small components.
4. If an "incomplete" engine is purchased for replacement (i.e. assembly of the cylinder block, crankshaft, pistons and connecting rods), it is necessary to remove the cylinder head, oil pan, oil pump and toothed drive belt from the old engine.
5. If you are planning a complete overhaul, the engine can be disassembled and the internal components removed in the following order:
- Intake and exhaust manifolds;
- Toothed drive belt and pulleys, and water pump;
- Cylinder head;
- Flywheel/drive disc;
- Pallet;
- Oil pump;
- Pistons;
- Crankshaft.
6. Before starting work, make sure you have all the necessary tools at hand.
