Note: Installation will require new main oil gallery and oil pump pickup tube O-rings and RHODORSEAL 5661 or suitable sealant.
Removal
1. Remove the toothed drive belt as described in Chapter 7.
2. Temporarily install the right lower engine mount bracket/drive cover onto the cylinder head and tighten the mounting bolts.
3. Attach a winch and lifting device to the mounting eye on the right lower engine mount bracket/drive cover and lift the engine slightly.
4. Working under the car, remove the jack and wooden block from under the pan, then remove the pan, see Chapter 12.
5. Disconnect the wiring connector from the low oil pressure warning light switch.
6. Remove the crankshaft sprocket.
7. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the oil pump from the front of the cylinder block (see illustration).
13.7. Remove the oil pump.
8. Remove the O-ring from the main oil channel in the cylinder block (see illustration).
13.8. Remove the O-ring from the main oil channel in the cylinder block.
9. Using a screwdriver, remove the front crankshaft oil seal from the oil pump.
Installation
10. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the oil pump and cylinder block.
11. Install a new O-ring into the main oil gallery at the rear of the cylinder block.
12. Apply a thin bead of Rhodorseal 5661 sealant to the cylinder block mating surface of the oil pump (see illustration).
13.12. Apply a bead of sealant to the cylinder block mating surface of the oil pump.
13. Position the oil pump on the front end of the crankshaft so that the locating pin fits into the hole in the oil pump (see illustration).
13.13. The protrusion on the end of the crankshaft must enter the groove (marked with an arrow) in the rotor of the oil pump.
Wipe off excess sealant.
14. Install the oil pump mounting bolts and gradually tighten them to the torque specified in the Specifications.
15. Install the new front crankshaft oil seal, see Chapter 15.
16. Install the crankshaft sprocket so that the protrusion on the sprocket fits into the corresponding slot in the crankshaft.
17. Connect the wiring to the low oil pressure warning light switch.
18. Install the tray as described in Chapter 12.
19. Place a jack and a block of wood under the pan to support the weight of the engine, then remove the hoist and winch.
20. Remove the right lower engine mount bracket/drive cover, then install and tension the timing belt as described in Chapter 7.
