Front oil seal
(from the sprocket side)
1. Remove the crankshaft sprocket as described in Chapter 8.
2. Note the installation depth of the oil seal, then use a screwdriver to remove it, being careful not to damage the surface on the crankshaft. The seal can be removed in another way. Drill two small holes in it opposite each other and screw in self-tapping screws. Use pliers to remove the oil seal by the screws.
3. Inspect the contact surface with the oil seal on the crankshaft. If it is rough or has grooves in the area where the old seal touched, the new seal must be installed at a shallower depth.
4. Wipe the contact surface with the oil seal, then dip the new oil seal in oil and place it on the crankshaft with the closed side facing out. Do not damage the sealing lip of the oil seal when it is located on the crankshaft.
5. Using a metal tube, hammer the seal into place to the depth marked before removal.
6. Install the crankshaft sprocket as described in Chapter 8.
Rear oil seal

7. Remove the flywheel as described in Chapter 16.
