E-series engines
Note: A new gasket will be required during installation.
Removal
1. Remove the throttle body as described in Chapter 14. Alternatively, the intake manifold can be removed along with the throttle body, but if this method is used, the throttle cable and various hoses will also need to be disconnected.
2. Drain the cooling system as described in Section 1, then disconnect the hoses from the intake manifold.
3. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose and any remaining breather hoses and/or vacuum hoses from the manifold.

4. Gradually loosen the nuts, then remove the intake manifold from the studs on the cylinder head. Remove the gasket.
Installation
5. Install in reverse order. Make sure the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and manifold are clean and use a new gasket. Where necessary, install the throttle body, see Chapter 14. Fill the cooling system as described in Section 1.
F3P engine
Note: A new gasket will be required during installation.
Removal
6. Remove the throttle body as described in Chapter 14.
7. Drain the cooling system as described in Section 1, then disconnect the cooling system hoses from the intake manifold.
8. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose and any remaining breather hoses and/or vacuum hoses from the manifold (see illustration).

9. Unscrew the two nuts, then remove the washers, springs and bushings securing the exhaust pipe to the manifold and separate the connection.
10. Where applicable, unscrew the nuts and remove the air heater chamber from the manifold.
11. Unscrew and remove the manifold brackets.
12. Gradually loosen the nuts and bolts securing the intake and exhaust manifolds and separate them from the cylinder head. The mounting bolts for the manifolds are common. Remove the manifold gasket.
Installation
13. Install in reverse order. Make sure the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and manifold are clean and use a new gasket. Install the throttle body as described in Chapter 14. Fill the cooling system as described in Section 1.
