Removal



1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Tilt the rear seat and remove the fuel gauge cover.

2. Disconnect the hoses and multi-pin connector from the top of the sensor, noting their location (see illustration).

3. Unscrew the ring nut using a tool made to the dimensions shown in Illustration 9.11a in Parts B of this Section.

Remove the ring nut and take out the sensor.



Checking the serviceability



4. Turn the sensor over: listen to the movement of the float.

5. Connect an ohmmeter to the terminals and observe the change in resistance from the "empty" position to the "full" position. Refer to Figure 10.5 of Parts B of this Section. The results should be approximately as follows:

6. If the instrument readings do not change as described, and if they change abruptly, the sensor should be replaced.

Installation



7. Install in reverse order. Use a new O-ring.
