Troubleshooting
1. High fuel consumption, unstable idle and poor throttle response may not necessarily be due to faulty carburetor. First, check the condition of the ignition system components, valve clearances and engine condition. Also check that the fuel and air filters are not clogged.
2. Carburetor failures usually occur due to dirt getting into the float chamber and blocking the jets, which leads to a lean mixture or a drop in power within a certain range of engine speeds. In this case, it is necessary to completely clean the carburetor. If the carburetor is badly worn, rough handling may be caused by air getting in through the throttle shaft bearings. The mechanical damper usually does not cause any problems.
Overhaul and adjustment
3. The following paragraphs describe cleaning and adjustment procedures that the car enthusiast can perform after removing the carburetor from the intake manifold. Partial cleaning can be done by removing the top cover without removing the carburetor. But be careful not to drop small parts inside the carburetor.
4. If the carburetor is worn or damaged, it must be replaced or rebuilt.
5. Before starting work, purchase a carburetor repair kit. It includes various gaskets, seals, etc.
6. If it is necessary to loosen adjusting screws or nuts, or disturb adjustable components such as the accelerator pump cam, mark the location of the components.
7. Loosen the mounting screws and remove the carburetor cover, while simultaneously disengaging the air damper control rod.
8. The accompanying illustration shows the various jets (see illustration).

Remove the jets, then clean the float chamber from sediment. Rinse the main body and cover with fuel, and blow out the internal passages and jets with compressed air.
9. The upper position of the float on this carburetor can only be adjusted by adjusting the thickness of the washer under the float regulator needle. Thickness is indicated in the Specifications.
10. Install the components in the reverse order of removal.
