Removal
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Disconnect the hoses and multi-pin connector from the fuel level sensor, see Chapter 8.
2. Transfer the fuel from the tank to a suitable container.
3. Jack up the car and place it on axle stands. Remove the exhaust system and the heat shield in the center section (where it is applied), as described in Chapter 14.
4. Disconnect the handbrake cables from the equalizer. Release the cables from the fasteners and move them to the side.
5. Disconnect the filler pipe from the fuel tank. Also disconnect the breather and ventilation hoses.
6. Disconnect the outlet hose from the fuel filter.
7. Ask an assistant to support the fuel tank. Remove the five mounting bolts and lower the tank. Disconnect any remaining cables or hoses and remove the tank from under the vehicle.
8. The tank is made of plastic. If damaged, replace it. Special repair kits are available for sale.
Installation
9. Install in reverse order. Finally, adjust the handbrake as described in Section 1.
