The ignition switch (lock) is located on the instrument panel to the right of the steering column. The key in the lock can occupy the following positions:
  • 1 - ignition is off, consumers such as audio system, cigarette lighter, interior lighting, etc. can be on. When the key is removed, the steering wheel locking device is turned on;
  • 2 - ignition on;
  • 3 - starter is turned on.

When the starter is turned on, all powerful consumers of electricity (headlights, air conditioning, etc.) turn off.

The key is equipped with an electronic engine start lock, controlled by a key recognition system with a changing encrypted random code.

The electronic engine immobilizer system is activated a few seconds after the ignition is switched off, as indicated by the flashing of the red signal lamp located in the instrument cluster.

At the factory, the vehicle is assigned a twelve-digit code to initialize the electronic engine immobilizer system.

In the after-sales period, the specified code may be required for the following purposes:
  • add keys;
  • replace one or more keys;
  • unregister one or more keys (for example, in case of loss or theft);
  • replace the electronic control unit (ECU).

Note: To obtain the after-sales code, you will need to know the vehicle serial number, which you should do by contacting the Renault Service Centre.

The electronic engine start immobilizer system includes a key head with a coded electronic circuit (Fig. 2.1) and a receiver ring located around the ignition switch (Fig. 2.2) and equipped with an electronic circuit for transmitting the key code to the ECU.

On vehicles with an automatic transmission, the key can only be inserted into the ignition switch when the selector lever is in the "P" position.

If it is difficult to turn the key from position "1" (with the steering wheel locked) in position "2" you should slightly rock the steering wheel to the right and left and at the same time turn the key.

Caution! Do not remove the key from the ignition until the vehicle has come to a complete stop to avoid the steering lock while driving.

Each time you restart the engine with the starter, turn the key to position "1", which protects the starter from damage.

If you remove the key from the ignition while the headlights or radio are on, a reminder buzzer will sound after the door is opened.
