Front suspension — general description (Renault Espace I)

The suspension includes: upper and lower wishbones, hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers, which are surrounded by springs, and an anti-roll bar. The front wheel hubs are mounted on conical bearings. The front suspension of the first generation cars was improved around the end of January 1988. The modified suspension was also installed on the second generation cars, but in this case the bearings of the upper supports are mounted in the body and secured with three nuts, while on the first generation cars before January 1988 the bearings were mounted on the struts. There are differences not only in the fastening but also in the shape of some parts (see illustrations 6.1 and 6.2). Pay special attention to the tightening torque of the lower shock absorber mount, since its original value of 40 Nm has increased to 60 Nm.

Note: First generation cars start with the designation "J11..." or "S11...". Second generation cars always have "63" in the model name.
