2. Check the condition of the main and connecting rod bearing journals.
3. Check each neck by running your finger across the work surface. Any roughness indicates the need for regrinding the crankshaft.
4. If the crankshaft has been reground, check that there are no burrs left around the crankshaft oil holes (the holes are usually beveled).
5. Using a micrometer, measure the diameter of the crankshaft main and connecting rod journals and compare the results with the Specifications (see illustration).

By measuring the diameter at several points around each cervix, you can determine the ovality of the cervix. By measuring the diameter at the edges of the neck, near the counterweights, you can determine the taper of the neck. If any of the obtained results differs by more than 0.025 mm, the crankshaft must be reground and smaller bearings must be installed.
6. Check the condition of the seal contact surfaces at each end of the crankshaft. If there is a noticeable groove in the crankshaft surface, consult an engine rebuilder to determine if repair is possible.
