2. On F3P engines, remove the bolts and metal plate from the cylinder head (see illustration).

8.2. Metal plate behind the camshaft sprocket - F3P engine.

8.2. Metal plate behind the camshaft sprocket - F3P engine.

3. Note the installation depth of the oil seal, then use a screwdriver to remove it. Do not damage the contact surface of the camshaft with the oil seal.

4. Wipe the bearing surface in the cylinder head.

5. Apply a small amount of oil to the outer edge and sealing lip of the new oil seal. Insert the oil seal into the cylinder head. Tap it into place using a metal tube or socket with an outside diameter slightly smaller than the diameter of the oil seal seat in the cylinder head. Make sure the seal is oriented correctly, i.e. with the sealing lip facing inward.

6. Install the support shield onto the cylinder head.

7. Install the camshaft sprocket, see Chapter 7.

From the distributor side

8. Remove the distributor cap and distributor rotor (Section 5B or 5C). Remove the distributor runner shield.

9. Use a screwdriver to press out the old seal. Install a new one as described above for the sprocket side oil seal.

10. Install the runner shield, runner itself and distributor cap.
