Removing
Before disconnecting the battery, insert the Renault card into the reader 8 position «ignition». Pull the card out to position «auxiliary equipment», the electric lock is now unlocked.
Disconnect the wires from the battery terminals, starting with the negative terminal.
To remove the battery, remove the covers and unscrew the mounting bolt A.
Note. When the airbag computer is locked, the electric steering column lock is unlocked.
Installation
It may be necessary to perform a few simple programming steps each time a battery is installed or disconnected (without using a diagnostic tool) to ensure the normal operation of the vehicle:
- setting the time on the clock;
- entering a four-digit radio code (using the remote control buttons on the steering wheel).
Initializing the pulse electric window motors
Fully close the windows, the glass jerks up to the stop.
Press the switches and hold them in this position for a few seconds,
Lower the windows all the way down.
Press and hold the buttons for a few seconds.
The motors have been initialised.
Sunroof motor initialization
Set the sunroof switch to the highest position of the sunroof.
Press the switch and hold it in this position. After two seconds, the sunroof opens to the highest position in intermittent operation, then lowers a few centimeters.
Release the switch.
Within five seconds, press the switch again.
Keep the switch pressed, the sunroof opens and then closes longitudinally.
The motor has been initialized.
Set the switch to «turned off».
Examination
You should check and make sure. What:
there are no cracks or signs of damage on the battery case and cover;
- there are no traces of dirt on the top of the battery;
- terminals are in good condition.
Necessary:
- make sure there are no salt deposits (sulfation) on terminals;
- if necessary, clean and lubricate the terminals;
- check the tightness of the nuts of the wire clamps on the terminals. If the contact between the wire clamps and the terminals is poor, the engine may not start and the charging efficiency of the battery may decrease. In addition, with unreliable contact, sparking occurs, which can lead to an explosion of the battery;
- check the electrolyte level;
For batteries with removable plugs
Remove the cover by hand or with some tool (e.g. a hard spatula).
Check that the electrolyte level in all cells is above the separators (about 1.5 cm).
Top up with distilled water if necessary.
Note. Some rechargeable batteries have a translucent case, which makes it possible to control the electrolyte level.
Never add electrolyte, acid or other liquids to the battery.
Precautionary measures
Please note that the battery:
- contains sulfuric acid, which is a hazardous substance;
- releases oxygen and hydrogen during charging. The mixture of these gases is explosive.
Sulfuric Acid Precautions
Sulfuric acid solution (electrolyte) is an aggressive, highly toxic substance that also causes severe corrosion. It corrodes skin, clothing, concrete, and is also corrosive to most metals.
Therefore, when servicing the battery, it is very important to observe the following precautions:
- use safety glasses;
- wear acid-resistant gloves and acid-resistant overalls.
In case of contact with sulfuric acid, wash the affected areas with plenty of water. If sulfuric acid gets into your eyes, seek medical attention immediately.
Battery Explosion Precautions
When charging the battery (by car or 8 rooms) oxygen and hydrogen are released. The most intense gases are released when the battery is fully charged, while the amount of gas released is proportional to the magnitude of the charging current.
Oxygen and hydrogen mix at the surface of the plates and form an explosive mixture.
The slightest spark from a burning cigarette or from a freshly extinguished match is enough to cause an explosion. When this occurs, the destruction of the battery and sulfuric acid is thrown out. Nearby people may be hit by shrapnel from the battery case or splashes of sulfuric acid. The latter are especially dangerous if they get into the eyes, on the skin of the face or hands. In addition, clothes are damaged.
If the battery is improperly maintained, the risk of an explosion increases dramatically. Make sure there are no sources of sparks near the battery.
Before disconnecting or connecting the battery, turn off all «consumers» electricity.
When charging the battery indoors, be sure to turn off the charger before disconnecting or connecting the battery.
Do not place metal objects on the surface of the battery, which may cause a short circuit between the battery terminals.
Do not bring open flames, blowtorches, gas burners, lit cigarettes, or lit matches near the battery.
