Brand. Valeo A 11 VI 88.

Nominal output current. 75 A.

Diagnostics

After 15 minutes of warming up (at steady state) at a voltage of 13.5 V at the terminals.

Table 4.12

Table 4.12

These vehicles are equipped with alternators, internal ventilation, a built-in voltage regulator and a warning light in the instrument panel that operates as follows:
  • when the ignition is turned on, the lamp lights up;
  • after starting the engine the lamp goes out;
  • if the lamp lights up again and the engine running time increases, this indicates a malfunction in the battery charging circuit.

Troubleshooting

The indicator light does not light when the ignition is turned on.

Check:
  • reliability of electrical connections;
  • is the light bulb burnt out? (before this, connect the circuit to ground, the lamp should turn on).

The indicator lamp lights up while the engine is running.

This indicates a fault in the charging circuit, which may be caused by:
  • break in the alternator drive belt, break in the wire between the alternator and the battery;
  • damage to internal parts of the generator (rotor, stator, diode or brushes);
  • voltage regulator failure;
  • output voltage too high.

The customer complains about the lack of charging, but the signal lamp works fine.

If the regulated voltage is below 13.5 V, check the generator. The cause of the malfunction may be:
  • diode failure;
  • phase break;
  • formation of carbon deposits on the contact rings or their wear.

Checking voltage

Connect a voltmeter to the battery terminals and measure its voltage.

Start the engine and increase its speed until the voltmeter needle stabilizes at the regulated voltage.

This voltage should be between 13.5V and 14.8V.

Attention! When performing electric welding work on a vehicle, be sure to disconnect the battery and voltage regulator.

Removal and installation

Special tool required
  • Mot. 1273 Belt tension tester.

1. Place the vehicle on a two-post lift.

2. Disconnect the battery.

3. Disconnect the generator electrical connectors

4. Remove the right front fender liner.

5. Remove the generator mounting parts.

6. Remove the belt.

7. Remove bracket A.

7. Remove bracket A.

8. Remove the crossmember mounting bolts and move it to the side to be able to remove the generator.

8. Remove the crossmember mounting bolts and move it to the side to be able to remove the generator.

9. Install in the reverse order of removal. The belt tension adjustment values are given in Chapter "Maintenance".
