Special tool required

  • Emb. 880 Inertial puller.

Emb. 880 Inertial puller.

The four-torsion rear axle consists of:
  • two suspension arms connected by a section of L-shaped profile. Unit 1 is non-detachable;
  • two stabilizers 3;
  • two torsion bars 4;
  • splined coupling 2 connecting the torsion bars.

The bridge is attached to the body by two supports mounted on silent blocks.

Attention! Never lift the car with a jack, resting its head against the beam of the L-shaped profile 1. Any deformation of it will mean the need for a complete replacement of the bridge beam.

Tightening torques, Nm

  • Upper shock absorber support mounting bolt 85.
  • Lower shock absorber support mounting bolt 115.
  • Wheel mounting bolts 90.

Removal

1. Remove the wheels.

2. Remove the shock absorbers.

3. Remove the torsion bar caps.

4. Remove using the Emb. 880 puller:
  • two torsion bars;
  • two stabilizers, leaving a splined coupling.

6. Clean and lubricate the torsion bar splines with MOLYKOTE BR2.

Installation

1. The stabilizers cannot be removed from the vehicle when the shock absorber replacement device is installed. For this reason and to facilitate the installation of the spline coupling, a wooden block should be made in accordance with Figure 6.47. Dimensions are given in millimeters, angles in degrees.

2. Install the coupling on the block (locally made) in the middle of the rear axle beam.

3. Install one stabilizer, ensuring that the angle of the block is maintained and that it fits easily into the splines.

4. Install the other stabilizer, ensuring that it fits easily into the splines.

5. Make a device (figure 6.38) to position the suspension arms so that the torsion bar can be installed correctly.

6. Pre-adjust the fixture to size X = 430 mm (figure 6.39).

7. Install the device in place of the shock absorber.

8. Install the torsion bar caps.

9. Install the shock absorbers.

10. Install the wheels.

11. Place the vehicle on its wheels and measure the position of the lower body control points (see p. 6.1).

12. Adjust the brake force regulator (see chapter "Maintenance").

13. Adjust the headlights.

Note: To correct the difference in X dimension between the left and right side of the vehicle, always perform a torsion bar adjustment.
