Required special tool
- Emb. 880 Inertial puller.
The four-torsion rear axle consists of:
- two suspension arms connected by a segment of the L-shaped profile. Node 1 is one-piece;
- two stabilizers 3;
- two torsion bars 4;
- splined coupling 2 connecting the torsion bars.
The bridge is attached to the body with two supports mounted on silent blocks.
Attention! Never raise the car with a jack, resting its head against the L-shaped profile beam 1. Any deformation of it will mean the need for a complete replacement of the axle beam.
Tightening torques, Nm
- Bolt of fastening of the top support of the shock-absorber 85.
- Bolt of fastening of the bottom support of the shock-absorber 115.
- Wheel bolts 90.
Removing
1. Remove wheels.
2. Remove shock absorbers.
3. Remove caps of torsion bars.
4. Remove with the Emb puller. 880:
- two torsion bars;
- two stabilizers, leaving the splined coupling.
6. Clean and lubricate torsion bar splines with MOLYKOTE BR2.
Installation
1. The stabilizers cannot be removed from the vehicle when the shock absorber replacement tool is installed. Because of this, and to facilitate the installation of the splined coupling, a block of wood must be made according to fig. 6.47. Dimensions are in millimeters, angles are in degrees.
2. Install the coupler on the bar (locally made) in the middle of the rear axle beam.
3. Install one stabilizer, ensuring that the angle of the bar is maintained and that the splines are easy to connect.
4. Install the other stabilizer, making sure that it connects easily to the splines.
5. Make a fixture (pic. 6.38) to position the suspension arms so that the torsion bar can be properly installed.
6. Pre-adjust the fixture to dimension X = 430 mm (pic. 6.39).
7. Install the tool in place of the shock absorber.
8. Install the torsion bar caps.
9. Install shock absorbers.
10. Install the wheels.
11. Put the car on wheels and measure the position of the control points of the lower part of the body (see point 6.1).
12. Adjust the brake force regulator (see chapter «Maintenance»).
13. Adjust the headlights.
Note: Always adjust the torsion bars to correct the difference in X dimension on the left and right side of the vehicle.
