Note: Do not rotate the crankshaft while performing this check.

Remove any remaining oil from the main journals and crankshaft bearings on the cylinder block.
Install without lubrication:
- crankshaft main bearing shells in the cylinder block;
- main bearing cap liners;
- crankshaft (10).

Cut several pieces of calibrated wire to measure the diametrical gap (11).

Install the wire along the axis of the crankshaft main journals. The wire should not get into the lubrication holes of the bearings.
Install without lubrication:
- crankshaft bearing shells with caps;
- old crankshaft main bearing cap bolts and tighten them to the specified torque.
Remove all parts.
Use wrapping paper (12) to measure the flattening of the calibrated wire to measure the diametrical gap, which should be:
- 0.024 - 0.065 mm for bearings No.1, 4 and 5;
- 0.012 - 0.065 mm for bearings No.2 and 3.
Clean the crankshaft and main bearing shells from any traces of calibrated wire.
