Note. Do not rotate the crankshaft while performing this check.
Wipe any remaining oil from the main journals and crankshaft bearings on the cylinder block.
Install without lubrication:
- liners of main bearings of a cranked shaft in the block of cylinders;
- inserts in the main bearing caps;
- crankshaft (10).
Cut a few pieces of gauge wire to measure the diametral clearance (11).
Install the wire along the axis of the crankshaft main journals. In this case, the wire must not get into the lubrication holes of the bearings.
Install without lubrication:
- liners assembled with crankshaft bearing caps;
- old crankshaft main bearing cap bolts and tighten to specified torque.
Remove all details.
Use wrapping paper (12) to measure the flattening of the calibrated wire to measure the diametral clearance, which should be:
- 0.024 - 0.065 mm for bearings No. 1.4 and 5;
- 0.012 - 0.065 mm for bearings no. 2 and 3.
Clean the crankshaft and main bearing shells from the remnants of the calibrated wire.
