General description of a manual transmission (Renault Espace I)

The 5-speed gearbox type "NG 3" installed on the cars is similar for all models with a 4-cylinder engine. On models with a V6 engine, the gearbox type "UN1" is installed. The gearbox design and the last digit are indicated on the plate on the left side of the rear casing. The last digit indicates all changes made to the gearbox. A new gearbox must have an identical digit when replacing. This is especially important if you are installing a used gearbox.
