Piston-connecting rod block of H4J and M4R engines (Renault Fluence 1)

Disassembly

Note: These steps should only be performed when replacing or inspecting the connecting rod or piston.

Mark the position of the piston relative to the cylinder using a permanent pencil.

Remove the retaining ring using pliers.



Heat the piston crown (to 60-70°C) using an industrial hair dryer or a 1500W heating element. Press out the piston pin. Mark the piston pin in relation to the piston using a permanent pencil.

Perform the specified operations on the remaining pistons.

Note: Connecting rod cap mounting bolts must be replaced.

To avoid damaging the connecting rod, do not subject it to impacts or use the mating surfaces of the cap and connecting rod body as support. Clean the piston assembly with the connecting rod using a cleaner.



Dry all parts using a pneumatic spray gun.

Assembly

When installing the piston pins, the mark (3) must be located on the same side of the piston and connecting rod head as before removing the pins.



Heat the piston crown (to a temperature of 60 - 70°C) to facilitate installation of the piston pin.

Install the piston pin (4).



Make sure the piston pin rotates in the piston and the small end of the connecting rod.

Install the retaining rings (5) using pliers.
