Removal
Place the vehicle on a two-post lift.
Disconnect the battery.
Remove:
- intake noise muffler,
- air filter housing.
Unscrew the nuts (1) securing the exhaust pipe flange.
Move the exhaust pipe back.
Disconnect the connector (2) of the upstream oxygen sensor.
Remove:
- upstream oxygen sensor using a tool (Mot. 1495-01).
- upper heat shield (3) of the exhaust manifold.
Remove the brace (4) between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder block.
Remove:
- exhaust manifold mounting stud nuts.
- exhaust manifold.
On the workbench, remove:
- bolts (5) for fastening the lower heat shield of the exhaust manifold,
- lower exhaust manifold heat shield.
Installation
Parts that must be replaced:
- Exhaust manifold sealing gasket.
- Ring between the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter.
Wipe with surface cleaner:
- mating surface of the exhaust manifold (in case of reuse),
- mating surface of the cylinder head.
Note: If the stud was loosened during removal, apply a high strength thread locking compound to the stud.
Install the exhaust manifold.
Tighten the exhaust manifold mounting stud nuts in the specified order to the specified torque (23 Nm).
Tighten the exhaust manifold mounting studs to the specified torque (8 Nm).
Install a brace between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder block.
Tighten to the specified torque in the order shown:
- mounting bolt (6) of the brace on the cylinder block (21),
- the nut of the stud (7) securing the brace to the exhaust manifold (21).
Install the exhaust manifold upper heat shield.
Tighten the exhaust manifold lower heat shield mounting bolts to the specified torque (12 Nm).
Install the upstream oxygen sensor using the tool (Mot. 1495-01).
Tighten the upstream oxygen sensor to the specified torque (45 Nm).
Connect the upstream oxygen sensor connector.
Tighten the exhaust pipe flange mounting bolts.
Tighten the exhaust manifold flange mounting bolts to the specified torque (21 Nm).
Install:
- air filter housing,
- intake noise muffler.
Connect the battery.
