General description

1. Heating and ventilation of the cabin operate on the principle of mixing hot and cold air in volumes determined by the position of the regulator on the control panel of these systems. The coolant heated by the engine passes through the heater matrix all the time the engine is running, regardless of the position of the regulator (see illustration).

11.1. Components of the heater blower and air distribution unit: 1 - Heater matrix; 2 - Supercharger; 3 - Temperature control flap; 4 - Air distribution flaps; 5 - Air distribution control cable through the air ducts; 6 - Temperature control cable; a - Air intake opening; b - Output to the glass blower air ducts; c - Output to the instrument panel deflectors; d - Exit to the nozzles in the footwells; X - Air intake box (in the engine compartment); U - Car interior.

2. Air distribution through the air ducts is controlled by the left control panel. Peripheral air distribution is achieved by opening/closing or changing the position of the deflectors in the instrument panel.

3. The operation of the three-speed heating/ventilation system blower is controlled by the right regulator on the control panel.

4. The operation of the air conditioning system installed on some models is described in Chapter 15.

Checking the work

5. Periodically check that all controls are working properly. Problems with temperature and air distribution controls can be caused by damaged or loose cables (see chapter 14).

6. If the blower does not work at all, first check its fuse and multi-pin connector and only then its motor. If one or two speeds don't work, the problem is almost certainly with the resistor (see chapter 12).

7. Check the condition and reliability of the cooling system hoses connected to the heater matrix. The heater matrix pipes are routed through the bulkhead into the engine compartment. If moisture is leaking into the interior of the vehicle in the heater area, determine that it is coolant (the heater matrix is leaking) or rainwater (the air intake box seal is damaged). The coolant has a distinctive pleasant smell.
