Using a micrometer, measure the inside diameter (1) of the valve guide and the outside diameter (2) of the valve stem.

Calculate the actual clearance, which should be equal to the value of the inner diameter of the valve guide bushing (1) subtracted from the value of the outer diameter (2) of the valve stem.

The clearance between the guide bushing and the valve stem should be:
  • intake valves: 0.020 - 0.053 mm;
  • exhaust valves: 0.030 - 0.063 mm.

exhaust valves: 0.030 - 0.063 mm.
