Diagnosing faults in a manual transmission (Renault Clio 1)

Noise in neutral with the engine running

• Input shaft bearings are worn out (the noise only occurs when releasing the clutch pedal, but not when pressing it) (Section 7).*
• The release bearing is worn out (the noise only occurs when the clutch pedal is pressed, and may decrease when the pedal is released) (Section 6).

Noise in one particular gear

• The gear teeth are worn, damaged or chipped (Section 7).*
• Difficulty shifting gears.
• Clutch faulty (Section 6).
• The gear shift rod is worn or damaged (Section 7).
• The synchronizer units are worn out (Section 7).*

Jumping out of gear

• The gear shift rod is worn or damaged (Section 7).
• The synchronizer units are worn out (Section 7).*
• The gear shift forks are worn out (Section 7).*

Vibration

• Lack of oil (Section 1).
• The bearings are worn out (Section 7).*

Lubricant leaks

• Leaking seal of the drive shaft in the differential (Section 7).
• Leakage in the casing connection (Section 7).*
• Input shaft seal leakage (Section 7).*
