The steering gear is removed for replacement or repair. However, keep in mind that the steering gear is the most important element of ensuring traffic safety. Low-quality repair of the mechanism can lead to serious consequences, so if necessary, repair it only in a specialized workshop or replace it with a new one. Replacing the steering gear is shown using the example of a steering gear with a hydraulic booster, since this work is more labor-intensive.

You will need: 16, 17, 19 keys, TORX T30, 18 socket head, ball joint puller.

1. Place the vehicle on a viewing ditch and apply the parking brake.

2. Set the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position.

3. Loosen the right front wheel mounting bolts.

4. Raise the front of the vehicle with a jack and place it on supports.

22. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal. When installing the steering gear, make sure that the rack is in the middle (neutral) position. The tightening torque of the steering gear mounting bolts is 105 N·m (10.5 kgf·m), the nut of the bolt of the terminal connection of the steering column with the tail of the steering gear pinion shaft is 21 N·m (2.1 kgf·m), and the bolts of the bracket of the rear support of the power unit are 105 N·m (10.5 kgf·m).

23. Check and, if necessary, adjust the front wheel alignment angles in a specialized workshop.
