An identification number (A)
The identification number consists of 17 characters (EEC standard) and is shown on a plate attached to the instrument panel and visible through the windshield of the car.

The vehicle identification plate is located on the right side at the bottom of the B-pillar and contains the following information:
- 1. Manufacturer's name;
- 2. EEC certificate number,
- 3. International manufacturer code (VF1 corresponds to RENAULT FRANCE) and type of car;
- 4 Maximum permissible vehicle weight;
- 5. Weight of the filled vehicle;
- 6. Maximum permitted load on the front axle;
- 7. Maximum permitted load on the front axle;
- 8. Vehicle type;
- 9. Level of equipment;
- 10. Article number of the car paint;
- 11. Code for special or limited editions;
- 12. Manufacturer code and serial number;
- 13. Additional equipment;.
- 14. Trim code;
- 15. Interior finishing material;
- 16. Identification graphic symbols of spare parts;
- 17. Technical features

Note. The above is all the information that may be contained on the identification plate. Depending on the country in which the vehicle is delivered, some information may be omitted
Engine number
The engine number is shown on the plate. riveted in the following places: - on a gasoline engine on the front side of the cylinder block near the oil pressure sensor, - on a diesel engine on the rear front side of the cylinder block near the oil sump and rear timing belt

The JC5 gearbox number is shown on a plate attached to the clutch housing.
