Power steering hydraulic system — bleeding (Renault Clio 1)

1. This procedure is necessary when any part of the hydraulic system has been disconnected or if air has entered the system due to a leak.

2. Remove the filler cap of the feed tank and bring the liquid level to the maximum mark.

3. Slowly move the steering gear from one extreme position to the other several times (the engine is turned off), to remove air from the system, then bring the fluid level in the feed tank back to normal. Repeat this procedure until the fluid level in the reservoir stops dropping.

4. Start the engine. Slowly move the steering gear from one extreme position to the other several times to remove any air remaining in the system. Repeat this procedure until no more bubbles appear in the feed tank.

5. If you hear an unusual noise when turning the steering gear, there is still air in the system. Turn the wheels to the straight ahead position and turn off the engine. If the fluid level in the reservoir rises, further bleeding is necessary.

6. After bleeding, turn off the engine and let the system cool down, then make sure that the fluid level is at the maximum mark on the reservoir; add fresh fluid to the reservoir if necessary.
