The hood, trunk lid, doors and front fenders are bolted together and can therefore be easily removed and replaced. But in this case, during installation, it is imperative to observe the necessary clearances, otherwise, for example, the door may knock, or increased air flow noise will be observed during movement. The gap must always run parallel, which means that the distance between the body parts must be the same along the entire length of the gap. Permissible deviations should not exceed 1 mm.
To fasten body parts, RENAULT uses so-called TORX bolts. The difference between these bolts and ordinary ones is that they do not have the usual external or internal hexagon. Instead of a hex, there is a star-shaped hex profile that more easily transmits the applied force when tightening or unscrewing. This increases the shelf life of bolts and screwdrivers. To perform the work, you need a set of appropriate inserts (screwdriver) TORX. For RENAULT MEGANE, a set of T8, TI5, T30 and T40 is recommended.
Bodywork Precautions
As part of the repair work, heating the car in the dryer or its chamber is allowed within the limits of no higher than + 85°С. Otherwise, electronic control devices may be damaged.
If, as part of the body work, welding and other work is carried out, the implementation of which is accompanied by sparking, then it is imperative to completely disconnect the battery (remove terminals from negative (-) and positive (+) conclusions and carefully insulate them). Remove the battery when working near the battery.
Attention! When the battery is disconnected, data is deleted from some electronic components. Therefore, before removing the battery, read the instructions in chapter «Battery - removal and installation».
When performing welding work, the terminal of the welding unit must be attached directly to the workpiece. In any case, the plugs of the airbag units and the seat belt pretensioners must be disconnected. They are located under the center console cover.
Body work is accompanied by strong vibration, for example, from hammer blows. For this reason, always turn off the ignition, and disconnect the power wire terminals from the battery poles. After disconnecting the battery, wait 5 minutes for the capacitors of the airbag units and seat belt pretensioners to discharge.
Gaps between body parts
When installing new body parts, it is imperative to observe the necessary clearances, otherwise, for example, the door may knock, or increased air flow noises will be observed during movement. Permissible deviations along the entire length of the gap should not exceed 1 mm (see illustrations).
