Gasoline engines with variable catalyst have an oxygen sensor (Lambda probe), installed in the exhaust pipe in front of the catalyst.
The downpipe is connected to the exhaust manifold, and in turbocharged diesel engines, to the turbocharger. In case of repair, all parts of the exhaust system can be changed individually. Self-locking nuts and gaskets should be replaced after they have been removed. Retaining rings and rubber suspension pads check for damage and porosity, and replace if necessary. When installing a new exhaust system, it is recommended that all mounting parts be replaced as well.
