Governing bodies (Renault Sandero 1)

The arrangement of controls is shown in Fig. 1.9. For ease of use, the handles, buttons and control instruments located on the instrument panel are marked with symbols indicating their functional purpose.

Instrument panel

The following controls and instrumentation are located on the instrument panel: (see fig. 1.9).





1 - nozzles of the ventilation and heating system of the passenger compartment. Designed to regulate the air flow from the heater, air conditioner or ventilation system.



The air flow is regulated by moving the nozzle deflectors...





...and the direction of the air flow is determined by turning the deflectors in the appropriate direction.



2 - lever of the switch of external lighting and direction indicators with the button of turning on the sound signal. The lever of the switch can occupy the following positions:

• I - right turn signals are on (fixed position);
• II - left turn signals are on (fixed position);
• III - side lights on;
• IV - low/high beam on;

• V - switching low/high beam (non-fixed position). When you hold the lever, the high beam comes on;
• VI - rear fog light on (parking lights must be on);

Note: On vehicles equipped with fog lights, turning the ring to position VI turns on the fog lights. To turn on the rear fog light, turn the ring to the corresponding position (parking lights must be on).

• VII - Sound signal on/off button. To turn on the sound signal, press the button.

When the lever is moved to position "I" or "II", indicator lamp 6 in the control and signal lamp block of the instrument cluster lights up with a flashing light (see fig. 1.12). When the steering wheel is returned to the straight-ahead position, the lever is automatically reset to its original position. When changing lanes, to turn on the turn signal, simply press the lever in the direction of position "I" or "II" only until you feel a noticeable resistance, without fixing the lever. When released, the lever will return to its original position.

When the low or high beam is switched on, the indicator lamp 14 or 11 lights up in the instrument cluster (see fig. 1.10) respectively.

When the rear fog light is switched on, the indicator lamp 7 lights up in the instrument cluster (see fig. 1.10), and when the fog lights are turned on - control lamp 4.

Note: If the ignition key is in position "S" or "A", and the exterior lights are on, a buzzer will sound when the driver's door is opened to remind you to turn off the lights.

3 - steering wheel.

4 - instrument cluster.



5 - ignition switch (lock), combined with the anti-theft device, is located on the right side of the steering column. The key in the lock can occupy one of four positions:

• S (LOCK) - ignition off, anti-theft device is on when the key is removed. To ensure that the steering shaft is locked, turn the steering wheel to the right or left until it clicks. To turn off the anti-theft device, insert the key into the ignition switch and, slightly turning the steering wheel to the right and left, turn the key to position "A";

Warning: Do not switch off the ignition or remove the key while driving: the steering will be locked and the vehicle will become uncontrollable.

• A (OFF) - ignition off, key cannot be removed, steering is unlocked. Power circuits for horn, exterior lighting, high beam headlights, radio equipment, fuel filler flap and tailgate locks are on;
• M (ON) - ignition on, key cannot be removed, steering is unlocked. Ignition, instruments and all electrical circuits are on;
• D (START) - ignition and starter are on, the key cannot be removed, the steering is unlocked. This position of the key is not fixed, when released, the key returns to the "M" position under the force of the spring.

6 - wiper and washer switch lever with a button for switching the on-board computer display modes. The switch turns on the electrical circuits when the ignition is on. The lever can take the following positions:

• I - windshield wiper off (fixed position);
• II - intermittent windshield wiper mode is enabled (fixed position);
• III - the first speed of the windshield wiper is on (fixed position);
• IV - the second speed of the windshield wiper is on (fixed position);
• V - by moving the lever towards you, the windshield washer is turned on (non-fixed position), the windshield wiper also turns on at the same time (depending on the configuration, the headlight washers are turned on simultaneously). When the lever is held in this position, the washer fluid is supplied; when the lever is released, the windshield wipers perform several more cycles;
• VI - button for turning on the rear window wiper and trip computer display modes.

When you turn button VI to a position where mark A aligns with the corresponding symbol, the rear window wiper is turned on, and when you press button VI, the display on the trip computer 2 changes (see fig. 1.10) information:

• total mileage counter;

• daily mileage counter.

Depending on the vehicle's configuration, the following information may be displayed on the on-board computer display:

• fuel consumption (in liters) since the last reset of the trip computer readings;
• average fuel consumption (l/100 km) since the last reset of the trip computer (the value is displayed after the car has traveled 400 m);
• current fuel consumption (l/100 km). The value is displayed when the vehicle is moving at a speed of more than 30 km/h;
• estimated range on the remaining fuel in the tank (km), the calculation takes into account the average fuel consumption;
• distance traveled (km) since the last reset of the trip computer;
• average vehicle speed (km/h) since the last reset of the trip computer.

7 - Hazard warning light switch. When the switch button is pressed, all direction indicators and their control lamps installed in the instrument cluster light up with a flashing light. When the button is pressed again, the alarm is turned off.

Note: The hazard warning lights operate in any position of the key in the ignition switch (lock).

8 - place for installing a car radio.

9 - niche for small items.

Note: In the instrument panel instead of the niche for small items (depending on the vehicle configuration) a front passenger airbag may be installed.

10 - Glove box. It is used to store small items and is opened by pressing the lock handle upwards, which turns on the interior light. On some cars, the glove box lock is unlocked or locked with the ignition key.



11 - control button for the electric window of the right front door.

12 - Central locking system switch. When you press the lower part of the button, the door locks are locked. To unlock the locks, you need to press the upper part of the switch.

13 - Heating system control unit (air conditioning) and ventilation of the passenger compartment, see "Heating, air conditioning and ventilation of the passenger compartment" p. 20.

14 - Ashtray. The car is equipped with a removable ashtray, which fits into the cup holder slots.



To open the ashtray, pull its lid up.



To clean, remove the ashtray from the floor tunnel lining.

Warning: Use the ashtray only for its intended purpose. To avoid fire and subsequent damage to the vehicle, do not place scraps of paper, candy wrappers, or other flammable materials in the ashtray.

15 - cigarette lighter.



To use the cigarette lighter, press the button on its movable part. After the spiral has heated for 10-20 seconds, the movable part will automatically return to its original position with a click...



...and the cigarette lighter can be removed for use.

Warnings:

• The cigarette lighter can be turned on again no earlier than after 20 seconds.
• Do not forcefully hold the cigarette lighter in the pressed position.
• Do not use the cigarette lighter socket to connect powerful electrical appliances (for example, electric coffee makers) - this may result in damage to the vehicle's electrical equipment.
• If the cigarette lighter button does not return to its original position within 30 seconds after switching on, remove the cigarette lighter from the socket to prevent the coil from burning out.

16 - parking brake lever.



To apply the parking brake, lift the lever all the way up. The indicator lamp 9 in the control and signal lamp unit will light red (see fig. 1.12).



To release the brakes, pull the lever up slightly, press the button at the end of the lever handle and lower the lever all the way down - the signal lamp should go out.



17 - gearbox control lever.

Note: Depending on the vehicle's equipment, an automatic transmission mode selector may be installed.

18 - Rear window heating switch. When you press the switch button (with the key in the ignition switch in position "M"), the rear window heating is turned on, and the indicator lamp in the button lights up at the same time. When you press the button again, the heating is turned off.

Warnings: The heating element consumes a very high current, so to avoid excessive battery discharge, turn on the electric heating with the engine running and only for the time required to eliminate fogging of the rear window. To avoid damaging the heating wires, do not use scrapers or other sharp objects, or detergents with abrasives, to clean the inside of the rear window.

19 - driver's door electric window control button.

20 - accelerator pedal.

21 - brake pedal.

22 - clutch pedal.



23 - headlight beam corrector. By rotating the adjuster handle, depending on the vehicle load, the angle of the headlight beam is changed in such a way as to prevent blinding drivers of oncoming and passing vehicles. At the same time, correct adjustment of the headlights improves visibility for the driver. Combining the mark on the adjuster handle and the number on the scale ensures the appropriate adjustment of the headlight position for the following vehicle load options:

• 0 - one driver or driver and front seat passenger;
• 1 - all seats are occupied;
• 2 - one driver and cargo in the trunk;
• 3 - all seats are occupied and cargo is in the trunk.

24 - hood lock drive lever. Turning the lever towards you unlocks the hood lock. At the same time, the front edge of the hood is raised, creating a gap for access to the hood safety hook handle.

Instrument cluster

The arrangement of instruments, as well as control and signal lamps in the instrument cluster is shown in Fig. 1.10.

The following instruments, control and signal lamps are installed in the instrument cluster.



1 - electronic tachometer shows the engine crankshaft speed. The scale is graduated from 0 to 70, c. on divisions 1.25. To find out the crankshaft speed in min, you need to multiply the tachometer readings by 100.

2 - trip computer display To set the time, turn on the ignition and select the total mileage and time display mode (Fig. 1.11). After that, set the exact time with button 8 (see fig. 1.10). Long press on the button allows you to quickly change the hours and minutes. Short press on the button changes minute by minute.







3 - the speedometer shows the speed at which the car is currently moving.

The scale has divisions from 0 to 200, the division value is 5 km/h.

4 - fog light indicator lamp.

5 - signal lamp for open doors.

6 - reserve.

7 - indicator lamp for switching on the rear fog light.

8 - Trip meter reset button To reset the readings, press and hold the button.

9 - control and signal lamp block. It includes the following lamps:

• indicator lamp 1 (Fig. 1.12) for low battery (with red filter) lights up when the ignition is turned on. The lamp should go out immediately after the engine starts. If the lamp is on or glows dimly when the engine is running, this indicates that there is no charging current due to a faulty generator or voltage regulator, and weak tension (or a break) auxiliary drive belt.

Warning: Driving the car with the light on is prohibited, as, in addition to a completely discharged battery, this may indicate a short circuit in the charging circuit, which may even lead to a fire.

• warning light 2 malfunction in engine management system (with orange filter). Lights up when the ignition is turned on and stays on while the engine is starting. The lamp should go out immediately after the engine is started. If the lamp lights up while the engine is running, this indicates a malfunction in the engine management system. In this case, the control unit switches to a backup program, which allows you to continue driving. If the lamp lights up, you need to check the electronic control unit using the self-diagnosis function and fix the malfunction.

Warning: Long-term operation of the vehicle with the lamp on is not recommended, as it may lead to increased fuel consumption, deterioration of the vehicle's traction characteristics and engine failure.

If the lamp is flashing, it means that the ignition system is not producing stable sparks. Reduce the engine speed until the lamp goes out. Contact a service station or fix the problem as soon as possible;- warning lamp 3 for emergency oil pressure drop (with red filter) lights up when the ignition is turned on and warns that the pressure in the engine lubrication system is below normal. The lamp should go out within two seconds after the engine is started;

Warning: Driving the vehicle with the warning light on is prohibited as it will damage the engine.

• warning light 4 minimum fuel reserve in tank (with orange filter) constantly on when the remaining fuel in the tank is no more than 5 liters;

Warning: If possible, avoid driving on reserve fuel. Operation of the electric fuel pump without continuous fuel supply with air entering the system will lead to pump failure!

• engine Overheating Warning Light 5 (with red filter). If the lamp lights up, you need to stop, let the engine cool down and eliminate the cause of overheating:
• indicator lamp 6 for turning on direction indicators (with a green filter in the form of arrows) lights up with a flashing light when the direction indicators or hazard warning lights are turned on. Flashing of the indicator lamp at a double frequency indicates that a lamp in one of the direction indicators has burned out;
• signal lamp 7 for glow plugs of diesel engine starting system (variant execution);
• the 8 engine start interlock signal lamp lights up for about 3 seconds after the ignition is turned on. When the lamp goes out, you can start the engine. If the lamp flashes or remains lit after the ignition is turned on, the system is faulty and you should contact a service station;
• parking brake and brake system status indicator lamp 9 (with red filter) lights up when the ignition is turned on in the event of an excessive drop in the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir or when the parking brake lever is raised:

Warning: Driving the vehicle with the warning light on is prohibited.

10 - Rear window heating indicator light (with yellow filter).

11 - High beam indicator lamp (with blue filter) lights up when the high beam headlights are turned on.

12 - Front passenger airbag deactivation indicator lamp.

13 - The driver's seat belt warning light comes on at speeds over 10 km/h if the driver's seat belt is not fastened.

14 - low beam headlight indicator lamp (with green filter) lights up when the low beam headlights are turned on.

15 - Airbag malfunction indicator light (with red filter) functions if the vehicle has an airbag installed in the steering wheel hub. Lights up when the ignition is turned on if there is a malfunction in the airbag system.

Warning: If the warning light comes on, contact your car service immediately. In addition to possible failure in an emergency, the airbag may unexpectedly deploy while driving, which will lead to serious consequences.

16 - Anti-lock brake system malfunction indicator lamp (with yellow filter) functions if the vehicle is equipped with an anti-lock braking system. Lights up for three seconds when the ignition is turned on (at the same time, lamp 9 lights up, see Fig. 1.12), after which it should go out.

If the lamp does not go out, contact a car service center, since braking in all cases occurs without the participation of the anti-lock system.
