1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

2. Drain the oil from the engine oil pan (see "Changing engine oil and oil filter").

3. Remove the accessory drive belt (see "Replacement of auxiliary drive belts").

4. Remove the timing belt (see "Replacement and adjustment of belt tension, replacement of the timing drive tension roller").

5. Remove the oil pan (see "Replacing the oil pan gasket").

6. Remove the crankshaft gear (see "Replacing crankshaft seals").

7. Remove the oil level indicator guide (see "Replacing the oil level indicator guide seal").

8. Remove the six bolts and the front cylinder block cover.

9. Remove the oil pump (see "Removal and installation the oil pump").

10. Remove the chain...

11. ...and the oil pump drive gear.

12. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
