Removal
1. The location of the knock sensor may vary depending on the engine type. On the D-series engine, the sensor is located on the front side of the cylinder block, to the left of the oil level dipstick. On the E-series engine, it is located on the rear of the engine, under the intake manifold; it is easier to reach the sensor from below. On F3P engines the sensor is located on the front of the cylinder head. On the F7P engine (with 16 valves), the sensor is located on the front side of the cylinder head, but it is obscured by the intake manifold (see illustrations).
6.1a. Knock sensor (2) on the E-series engine, bottom view: 1 - Multi-pin connector; 2 - Sensor.
6.1b. To remove the knock sensor on the F7P engine (with 16 valves, an extended socket is required (marked with an arrow).
2. Disconnect the wiring and unscrew the sensor (see illustration).
6.2. Disconnect the detonation sensor wiring - F3P engine.
Installation
3. Install in reverse order.
