- Ball joints and tie rod ends. Check dust caps.
- Steering. Check the condition and tightness of the protective cuffs.
- Power steering. Check fluid level. Refill if necessary. Check the tightness of the steering gear, power steering pump, as well as all pipelines and their connections.
Dust caps for tie rod ends and ball joints - check
1. Put in front of the car on the goats.
2. Light a lamp and check the condition of the anthers of the right and left tie rod ends, as well as the ball bearings of the left and right sides of the suspension (see arrows in illustrations 17.0 and 17.0a).

3. Make sure that the rubber of the anthers is not damaged, has no cracks, cuts, and that the anthers themselves are firmly seated in their places.
4. Replace damaged boots. For safety reasons, along with the boot, also change the corresponding ball joint, because if dirt gets into it, it will certainly break the ball joint.
Power steering - fluid level check
Necessary tools and materials: oil «ELF RENAULT MATIC D2» or «MOBIL ATF 220D».
Checking the oil level in the hydraulic booster of the steering should be carried out with the engine turned off and cold, corresponding to the air temperature (approx. +20°С).
Attention! The shape and location of the power steering reservoir may differ from those shown in the illustrations. This is due to the configuration and type of engine of the respective vehicle.
Vehicles with 1.4-/1.6-liter engine
5. Measure the oil level in the hydraulic booster reservoir using dipstick 2, which is attached to the cap 3 of the reservoir. The oil level must be between marks A and B (see illustration).

2.0 liter petrol, diesel and 16-valve vehicles
6. Visually check the oil level in the hydraulic booster reservoir. For cars with an engine capacity of 1.9 liters or more, the tank is transparent and the oil level must be between the MINI and MAXI marks, which are printed on the side wall of the tank (see illustrations 17.6 and 17.6a).

7. Add fluid if necessary. Fill with fluid of the specification recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. Be sure to fill in only fresh oil, because the slightest contamination can cause damage to the hydraulic booster.
8. Close the tank with a lid.
9. Start the engine after filling the fluid and turn the steering wheel from side to side until it stops several times. This will remove air from the hydraulic booster.
If the volume of the power steering fluid had to be replenished, then the tightness of the steering mechanism should be checked.
