Examination
If the brake lights do not light, first check the corresponding fuse. Then check the brake light bulbs. If they are OK, check the brake light switch. To do this, disconnect the brake light switch plugs and connect the wires together, turning on the ignition. If the brake lights still light, the switch should be replaced.
Removal
The brake light switch is located at the top, above the brake pedal (see arrow in illustration 14.0).

1. Turn on the ignition.
2. Disconnect the brake light switch plug.
3. Unscrew the switch, holding it by the housing.
Installation
4. Install the switch back into place in the pedal bracket. Do not press the brake pedal. The switch will move into the desired position on its own.
5. Turn on the ignition and make sure that the brake lights come on even with slight pressure on the brake pedal.
